One can never mistake the faces from the Kestner firm – so lovely and distinctive. This exquisite all-bisque bears that distinction and more, as to us, she appears to be all-original. Highlights include a perfect bisque swivel head with blue sleep-eyes (losses to areas of wax), an amazing original mohair wig retaining its original set, and then there is her overall charm.
The five-piece body is darling, but there is a small chip at the back of the torso at the neck opening, and her right arm has been expertly repaired at the elbow. The repair is so good, we absolutely missed seeing it for quite some time.
Her black, four-strap, heeled boots are impressive, as is her marvelous dress of dusty peach silk with lace accents. The pale blue oversized hat sets her apart from the crowd – and allows her to be seen – and what a fabulous sight.

Don't you sometimes wish these special things could speak? That way, they could tell us where (and why) they have languished for the last century or so.
When we run across exquisite items such as this French All Bisque Mignonette and trousseau, still housed in the original box, we can only appreciate the rarity and the beauty. Because we will never know the answer to our questions, we are simply left to wonder with admiration and awe.
Rest assured, this example is the genuine article – and was originally retailed at AU PARADIS DES ENFANTS, which was located at 156 RUE DE RIVOLI PARIS. We know that fact due to the paper label on the bottom of the box.
The four-inch tall swivel-neck doll is wearing a gauze chemise and resting on her woven cotton blanket, with its blue silk ribbon edge. In addition, still pinned into place are her ice-blue and lace christening gown, an additional chemise, a cotton and lace blouse, a lovely cotton cape with a matching bonnet, and one additional bonnet.
The doll features blue glass eyes, the darling original mohair wig with a blue silk hair band glued in place and blue painted boots upon her feet.
Overall condition is excellent – there are two tiny flakes on the torso at the neck opening, and it is likely that the blue silk ribbon that holds her in place is a replacement. The box itself is marvelous –the interior and exterior are paper covered wood. The inside is lined in bright pink with a paper lace edging. The exterior of the box features a lid with a wavy glass front, while the sides are covered in paper featuring beautifully lithographed cartouches.
