Hey there blue eyes! Dressed to the nines in her creamy silk ensemble, this lovely Bebe Steiner, a fourteen and three-quarter inch Series C, is a very manageable size O. Further details include a perfect bisque head with deep first out of the mold modeling, intense blue paperweight eyes with spiral threading, mauve shadow, pierced ears, and the original auburn mohair wig which is worn over the original molded purple papier-mache pate.
The original Steiner body, also of purple papier-mache, shows normal wear to the original paint finish, and the hands feature "banana fingers" in perfect condition, save for expected normal wear upon the tips.
This child is a true fashion plate in her a-line dress of cream satin, with ruched chiffon, lace at the cuffs and a dramatic sash. The magnificent chapeau features fine lace and lily of the valley accents, while antique white leather bebe shoes marked 0 complete her smashing presentation!

Bébé Bru Breveté

20" Bebe Bru Brevete model marked upon the head 4. Classic Brevete, and an exceptionally beautiful one, although not perfect, as her head does have a repair upon her left temple which extends to the back of her head. There is also an eye flake repair to her right lower lid, and one small one to the lower corner of her left eye.  Additional features include a gorgeous face with lovely coloring and painting, incredible blue paperweight eyes, a wonderful original blonde mohair wig and a perfect bisque shoulder plate. Her patented leather body, with perfect bisque arms, and lower gusseted leather legs is strong and very clean, while her gorgeous ensemble of deep blue and cream silk is the perfect choice, as it accentuates the intensity of her eyes. Antique French leather shoes and a pretty lace bonnet are the perfect finishing touches.

An Extremely Rare
Bébé Bru –

Times Two!
Just when we jaded doll collectors and dealers swear we have seen all there is to see in the doll world – along comes a piece so singular, the first sight of it literally takes your breath away. Such is the case with this exceedingly rare, large, Two-faced Bebe Bru, from the Casimir Bru era! We have owned several Two-faced Bru examples in the past, but never one this monumental in size and presence!

Standing approximately twenty-four inches tall, this magnificent French character doll features a perfect bisque head with a flange-neck which is mounted upon a perfect bisque shoulderplate. The top of the head is fitted with a brass knurled knob, which is used to rotate the head in order to view both faces.
While one exquisitely modeled face features a gleeful child, with narrow eye cuts fitted with blue glass eyes, a wide smiling mouth, and pierced ears – the other bears an obviously unhappy child featuring a complexion red with anger, blue glass eyes and an open/closed mouth with a full modeled tongue. The unhappy child also was given beautifully modeled pierced ears. A wonderful additional feature is the original curly skin wig which lends even more personality.
Upon a Bru-patented kid body with classically modeled bisque arms (repair to pointer on right hand), the body is in very good condition. Incidentally, the two-faced Bru models we have handled in the past have all been on this identical leather body type.
There is really no visible reason for this doll to be cranky, as she is wearing a spectacular original bebe ensemble in burgundy velvet and claret silk with abundant lace. Antique stockings, leather shoes and a wonderful bonnet complete her presentation.
A museum worthy example, that boldly represents the creativity and ingenuity of the Bru firm.

There certainly was a lot of fuss over the Paris Bebe, as it was first a trade name created by Danel & Cie, then later produced by Jumeau after winning a lawsuit against the former. This lovely, 24” Paris Bebe is the first, a product of the Danel firm (incised in head Paris Bebe – Paris Depose). Features include stunning deep brown paperweight eyes, lovely coloring, a luxurious, dark brown human hair wig, and pierced ears. On a jointed composition body, she wears a fantastic antique couture dress of claret-colored fine silk, and wool that is exquisitely embroidered and further trimmed in delicate braid and wide ecru lace. Her under things, long stockings and brown leather Alart shoes are also antique.
