Simon & Halbig 1009

A 1009 from the Simon & Halbig firm is not necessarily a rare doll, but one as sweet as this is!
Details of this twenty-three and one-half inch child include a perfect bisque head with lovely painting, blue set eyes that feature extra depth like paperweights, an open mouth with teeth and the original human hair wig. The fully-jointed composition body bears the original paint finish in good, played-with condition.
It is this doll's gorgeous presentation that makes her a stand-out! She wears a cream silk dress with exquisite lace treatment at the hem and shoulders, and a fabulous over-scale bonnet in cream silk, lace and silk brocade ribbon – a monochromatic vision!
This is a very expensively dressed German child – lucky her!

J.D. KESTNER
"Das Wunderkind Charakter Puppe"

Why settle for one J.D. Kestner doll, when you easily can have four in one? That idea must have been behind the original marketing of the magnificent boxed head set known as "Das Wunderkind Charakter Puppe".
Circa 1910, the set was originally offered in two sizes, this being the more difficult to find larger size, as the complete doll in this box stands fourteen and one-half inches tall.
The completed doll is unmarked (although it appears to be a 186) and features perfect bisque, brown painted eyes, the original pate and wig, a jointed composition body in excellent condition, and wears the original cotton chemise with lace decoration.
The remaining heads a mold number 174 with brown glass sleep-eyes and an open mouth, a mold number 179 with brown painted eyes and a mold number 182 with blue painted eyes, all feature perfect bisque, exquisite painting, original plaster pates, and all have incredibly lovely original mohair wigs in their original sets.
The compartmented box is in very good condition, retains the cotton ties that hold the doll in place, as well as the paper label on the lid and a photocopy of the original paper instructions, which illustrate the process of changing the heads.
A museum quality example of the Kestner firm's incomparable ingenuity.

The box measures: 16" x 9-1/2" x 3-1/2"

Thank you, M.

A.M. 253 Googlie!

Too adorable for words! That expression can apply to most Googlies, but especially to this Armand Marseille model, a 253 made for George Borgfeldt Co. Features of this impish twelve-inch cutie include a perfect bisque head with big round eyecuts that hold brown glass sleep-eyes, a darling painted watermelon smile, a small pert nose and a great original light brown mohair wig.
On a five-piece composition baby body showing normal wear and scattered repair, this Googlie is happy because she wears one of the most beautiful baby dresses ever with its rows of lace insertion and yards of feather stitching! Her fabulous lace bonnet could simply not get much better!
As above...too adorable for words!

J.D. KESTNER 167

24-1/2" J.D. Kestner 167 Child, with a perfect bisque head featuring extremely expressive brown sleep-eyes, lovely painting, and a human hair wig in the perfect shade for her brow color. This lovely doll retains her original marked "Germany" Kestner body with the original paint finish.
All in all, this classic doll is an extremely good value, because if one were to add up the cost of her white cotton dress, and her ribbed cotton coat with its capelet collar decorated in eyelet and embroidery – then add her exquisite bonnet and antique leather shoes to the equation – you will find that we know of what we speak!
Besides her fair price, she is just too adorable to pass up!

Armand Marseille's
"Fany"

Most of the versions of Armand Marseille's "Fany" we have handled in the past have been small models. Take note big doll collectors, this Fany stands twenty-three inches tall! Features include a fully marked head bearing the mold number 231 and A. 9 M., gorgeous dewy bisque, blue glass sleep eyes, and a cute blond mohair wig.
On a chunky generic toddler body with some repaint, (although beautifully done), Fany is a vision in playful red. She wears a red polka-dot dress with a ruched bertha collar and white tape trim, while red stockings, antique red leather shoes and a red satin hair bow complete the presentation.
In case you didn't know, Fany's face is based on a seventeenth-century sculpture by the Flemish artist François Duquesnois – proving the worlds of fine art and playthings do sometimes overlap.

SANTA

My, my, what an exquisite example of Simon & Halbig's Santa this is! Standing twenty-six and one-half inches tall, her perfect bisque head (save for a few wig pulls) is impressed "SH 1249 DEP Germany 12 SANTA". Features include lovely coloring and painting, blue glass sleep-eyes, an open mouth with teeth, pierced ears with lovely antique pink glass earrings and a perky expression. Her blond mohair extension wig is spectacular, and works very well on her, due to her impressive size.
Santa's wood and composition fully-jointed body retains its original paint finish in great condition, and she wears a darling white cotton dress with delicate tucking and lace inserts. Keeping with her monochromatic theme (save for the accents of pink!) are her antique socks and cream leather shoes.
Truly one of the nicest examples of this classic mold we have handled.
