| ...Down
by the Seashore. |
|
Over
one hundred and thirty years ago, seashells, tiny flowers, and moss
were married to provide a nurturing home for this petite China doll
and her Baby. They were so satisfied with their fragrant spot in the
shade, it seems that they have just never left...fortunately for us.
A seashell confection, to be sure...preserved under its' original glass dome. It measures eight inches tall, overall. $2800.00 |
||
| A
convex
glass dome is the home for this four inch tall Grodnertal Wooden. She
is dressed in the style of the 1830s, but it is not the style of the
clothing that is unusual for this little dear, it is what the clothes
are composed of. Grains of rice and blue glass beads make up the clothing
in this case. She rests on what appears to be a wedding wreath. Something borrowed, something blue...well, you know the rest. Dome measures:5-1/2" in diameter. $2200.00 This little dear can be found in John Noble's book "Selected Writings..." upon page 65. |
A delightful shell-encrusted basket that overflows with wax and glass fruit. Circa mid-nineteenth century, this object stands four inches tall. SOLD |

Pair
of Provincial Shell Dolls Circa 1830 |
|||
|
This
Pair of Shell Dolls is different from others we
have seen...this pair depicts a very foreign appearing couple, due to
their headdreses and "clothing" styles. Note the gentleman...he
smokes a pipe and his companion attends to her spinning. They stand approximately 8-1/2 inches tall, twelve inches with the dome in place. $3500.00 This shell pair can be seen in "Rare and Lovely..." on page 95. |
