Saint
Elizabeth |

|
In
DOLLS magazine, in an article entitled "From
Rags to Riches-An Adventure in Conservation", John
chronicled the restoration of this beloved Italian church figure.
Dating from the seventeenth-century, Saint Elizabeth's
transformation was miraculous, without jeopardizing her integrity,
as the bulk of the restoration involved her eighteenth-century,
handpainted-silk gown. Paint
was cleaned, fingers repaired...all allowing this powerful figure
to endure our new century and beyond...all with remarkable presence.

| Virgin
& Child |
||
| Virgin
and Christ Child,
circa 1790, of Neapolitan origins. The figure of the Holy Mother is
a glowing work of art...now placed on a cage, so the figure may be displayed
in a satisfactory manner...holding her Child. See "Rare and Lovely..." pages 16-18 for more photos. The caged figure measures thirty and one-half inches tall. SOLD |
This
carved pine Nodding Monk must date from the mid-nineteenth-century...his
patina would suggest that. The painting of his features is reminiscent
of wooden dolls from that era. A lead weight keeps him in graceful motion for some time. He kneels in prayer at six and one-half inches tall. $550.00 |
