GUIGNOL

Please, first take note of the measurements of this whimsical Guignol, as it is rare to find such a small example. We have offered these French puppet theaters in the past, some as large as five feet tall, but this model is designed for play upon a table top. It would also be great used inside a doll cabinet, to create a fantastic scene with your bebes and German characters.
Created from wood, applied plaster ornaments, paper and paint, this Guignol features a lovely palette. Included is a piece of backdrop scenery that helps provide a wonderful three-dimensional aspect.
In very good condition, showing normal wear, circa 1890.

Something tells us, that one could actually spin yarn with this amazing Flax Wheel, a spectacular souvenir of Strasbourg. The turned details are plentiful, and include many intricately carved finials in ivory. Also, note the applied ornamentation in lighter woods – especially the row of bell-shaped drops that finish the bottom. Whimsy, blended with function – an attractive combination in this case.
Note how perfect this piece is when displayed with dolls in regional attire!

Some of us could probably use some magic when it comes to sewing – but that might defeat the entire purpose. Actually, the magic transfers are no longer in the box, but there are several "first effort" garments created for the 4-3/4" Japanese all bisque housed inside. Not to mention the colorful appeal of the late 1930s artwork on the box lid – adorable.
