Wonderful and early French Toy Theater retaining its original box, circa 1850. It is complete with two extremely colorful, lithographed changes of scenery.
Incredible details abound including a blue cotton curtain which raises and lowers with the turn of a crank, plus there is an abundance of elegant, Dresden paper, trimmings.

Jeu de Massacre
 
French game of skill, "Jeu de Massacre" features a Moon and three Pierrot figures, all in molded papier-mache. The colors are extremely brilliant overall, and the original cotton, sawdust-filled, balls are present. When a successful hit is made, the figures tilt back on their hinges against the red cotton drape. This game would be just super mounted upon a wall, anywhere...you never know when you might be in the right mood for a toss!

An elegant, early, wooden Target Game. Pull the spring-loaded lever and a clay ball is sent to find its' target among a variety of obstacles. The ball traverses a lithographed paper board, resplendant with colorful Chinoiserie scenes, to eventually land who knows where? Displays perfectly on a wall.

Pair of French papier-mache "Masks", that are actually colorful wall decorations. This pair represent Polichinelle and probably Columbine, two characters from the Italian Commedia dell Arte. They are both in very good condition and promise to add an air of drama to any doll room!

GUIGNOL: French in origin, this child-size puppet theater is simply constructed of wood with cast plaster ornamentation. Surfaces are painted both in solid colors and faux marbling and raised details are picked out in gilt. Lower panel features a chromolithograph of two stags, bordered by strips of hand-blocked wallpaper. A red cotton curtain with metallic-fringe edge raises and lowers with the turn of a crank. Circa 1890-1910.
Measures: 33” tall, 16-1/2” wide, 10” deep.
