Incredible Roullet et Decamps "Puss in Boots" Automaton Nodder circa Early 1900's

$5,500.00

Here we have a stunning centerpiece for a whimsical doll room in the form of this Puss in Boots automaton nodder. Circa Early 1900’s, he features a papier-mâché body covered in rabbit fur and stands on nicely molded plaster legs clad in his signature, tall boots (his boots, along with the design of his tail which aligns with his boots and allows him to stand independently). His “nodder” style head features green glass eyes, alert ears, whiskers and a mouth (with sharp metal teeth) that opens and closes as he nods. He wears a satin cape in red and yellow and a green oilcloth baldric for his wooden sword. A vintage white Steiff mouse dangles from his paw. Nodding mechanism activated by hand or by key inserted in right side. This piece displays beautifully and presents a lovely antique patina with normal age related wear.

Measures: 26 1/2” tall
