This stately “Blue Roof” dollhouse, made by Moritz Gottschalk, circa early 1900s, also known as a “Deauville” house has all of the latest conveniences, including a crank-operated elevator! Constructed of pine, the house features a lithographed exterior of faux stone in a palette of oyster grey with pale blue and duck’s egg green details.

Further details include a two level front porch with turned railings and newel posts, a wooden front door and paned style glass windows with crocheted lace curtains. The roof and steeple with turned finial are painted vivid blue with a brick style lithographed finish to the dormer and chimney. The wooden base of the house is sponge painted in a palette of red white and blue.

The front of the house opens to reveal two rooms on the right side of the house, while the left side features a foyer area downstairs, and an entryway with door outside of the working elevator that is crank operated from the outer left side of the house. The interior of the house retains it’s original papers in a wonderful variety of patterns including walls with a vivid blue floral on a soft brown background, and a lattice style pattern of blue flowers and ribbons on an ecru background and floors with a diamond shaped parquet style pattern. The walls are adorned with charming pictures and a gilt framed mirror.

Larger right side interior rooms measure, 7” deep, 9” wide, ceilings measure, 8” tall (downstairs) 7 1/4” tall upstairs. Smaller rooms on left side of house measure 6 3/4” deep, 4 1/2” wide (including elevator shaft). Overall measurements, including base, 15” wide, 9 3/8” deep (including front steps), 31” tall (including steeple).

The house does present age related losses and discoloration to lithographed exterior, as well as vertical cracks to lower edge of bottom front windows.
