Grand “Blue Roof” Mansion by Moritz Gottschalk, circa 1890s

$3,500.00

We are pleased to offer a grand “Blue Roof” dollhouse, made by Moritz Gottschalk, circa 1890s. Constructed of wood, this stately home features a lithographed exterior of faux brick and stone and is topped with a vivid, painted-blue roof with two chimneys. The house is mounted on a wooden base painted in robin’s egg blue and featuring a wonderful antique patina.

The front of the house features a dormer with a pediment featuring decorative plaster details, a gable with a blue roof and arched glass windows (gable roof opens). Further details include two rows of glazed windows fitted with lace curtains and a brick style portico with a slanted blue roof, painted-white steps and decorative newel posts.

The front of the house opens to reveal four rooms that retain their original papers on the walls that include a rich red with a palm motif, a dutch themed “tile” motif and an incredible floral motif with gilt details. The floors also feature original paper with parquet style patterns in hues of rich brown and gold. The two wide framed doors are covered in embossed white paper (some warping to paper).

The house does present scattered, age related losses, replacements, and discoloration to lithographed exterior and wood and does present vertical cracks in the wood at the front center of house above portico and below plaster pediment. This house is quite deserving of a proper restoration.
Once part of the Collection of Angels Attic Museum in Santa Monica, California.
