Mechanical Toy Cyclist, circa 1870s

$995.00

This wonderful mechanical toy, a velocipede, attr. Stevens and Brown, features a papier-mâché cyclist wearing a colorful cotton costume and gold tone metal boots. His feet are attached to his three-wheeled metal cycle, and when it is set in motion by winding it, (or by manually pushing it) his feet which are attached to the pedals bend his knees and created a delightfully realistic pedaling motion. Motion rotates smoothly, rider does present scattered finish loss to head and hands, normal age-related wear to original costume.
Measures: 12” long, 8 3/4” tall
