This lovely and substantially-sized cloth doll represents the resourcefulness of dollmakers of the early 20th century. Here, a printed body for an advertising doll has been utilized as a “palette” for an expressive, and beautifully hand-painted face with vivid features including wide set hazel eyes, petal pink cheeks and pink lips. Her seamed, hand painted head of hair features delicate brush strokes with face framing curls and is topped by a crocheted bonnet threaded with a dark pink ribbon tie. Her firmly stuffed cotton body features a printed all-in-one threaded with red ribbon, ribbed charcoal stockings and red, side button shoes (body neatly patched throughout and toe of left foot damaged.) She wears a high waisted, long-sleeved dress in a delicate red vine print with rows of tucks at the hem (overall fading / discoloration to dress.)
