Of the finest English stock and dating to the second quarter of the eighteenth century, this magnificent English wooden lady stands twenty-one and three quarter inches tall. The doll's paint is original and lovely - typical wear to nose. She features black enamel eyes, beautifully stippled brows, deeply blushed cheeks and delicately painted lips. Her hemp wig is styled in an elaborate updo and topped with a wire brimmed silk hat embellished with metallic thread, lace and antique millinery flowers.
Her carved wooden body is sturdy, features articulated legs, and cloth upper arms that terminate in carved graceful wood, forked hands – with all fingers intact.
This fine lady wears a lavish two-piece costume in striped, textured silk jacquard with floral embroidery. Further details of her costume include gold bullion trim, lace and ribbons throughout, and a stomacher covered in gold fabric. Underneath, she wears a quilted cotton petticoat, a fine cotton petticoat trimmed in lace and fine cream stockings with green ribbon garters. Gold shoes with a silver embellishment at toe complete her stunning presentation.
