Beautiful Neapolitan Nun - Circa Early 19th Century
This terra cotta nun features an exquisitely modeled face with lovely painting that includes expressive brown eyes, delicately blushed cheeks and a closed mouth in a petal pink hue. Her body is cloth over a wire armature with molded and painted plaster/terra cotta lower arms and legs (right foot presents a repair and both hands feature some re-glues.)
She wears a beautifully sewn habit of fine black wool (minor, scattered holes), a veil of black cotton twill, with a cream cotton gauze veil underneath, and a wimple of finely ruched cotton gauze. She wears a black leather belt, and a silver tone rosary of black antique glass beads hangs from her waist along with a crucifix and a St. Anthony medal. Includes a vintage box with a descriptive paper label.
