Child for the French Market in the Style of a Bébé Schmitt
This darling, German Child was made in the style of a Schmitt Bébé and comes complete with a darling trousseau, trunk and provenance. The doll was obviously retailed for the French market.
According to a hand-written note included with this doll, she was purchased in New York circa 1910 by a Mr. George Ade and gifted to his niece a Miss Marian McCray…we can only imagine the delight of receiving such a gift and the years of play that ensued!
This exquisite child is a Schmitt “look-a-like” most likely made in Sonnenberg, Germany. Details include a perfect bisque head with gorgeous, pale coloring and painting, gently blushed, petal pink cheeks, ice-blue paperweight eyes, and a blonde skin wig.
