Here we have an early German candy box of decorative paper on wood. A panel of leather finish paper with an embossed thousand star pattern is overlaid along the top and sides of box. A handmade metal handle attaches to floral motif hardware, while the remaining top of the closure is in the shape of a crown. The clasp portion is missing. The interior of the box is lined in white paper and features gilt finished edges and a floral label on the interior of lid. This piece does present scattered, age related wear and the back hinge is partially separated. Bottom inscribed: Germany 1864
