Here, we have a charming escapee from the Disney’s Seven Dwarves - a “Dopey” doll by the Ideal company. Perhaps the sweetest of the dwarves, Dopey is rendered here with a composition head with character molding, his signature oversized ears, wide open black-painted eyes and charming, crooked smile (head does present surface crazing).
His flanged head is on a firmly stuffed cotton body with mitt style hands and very firm lower legs that terminate in extra long feet which allow him to stand on his own. His wonderful costume remains vivid and is comprised of an orange felt tunic with a belt of yellow yarn over a pair of pants in brilliant blue ribbed cotton. His soft felt cap which has mellowed to a soft violet shade reads “Dopey.” A treasure for Disney collectors or a wonderful piece to add to a cabinet or display with a sweet 1920’s-1930’s ethos.
