Here we have a charming and substantially sized “Dopey” Ventriloquist Dummy by the Ideal company. The beloved character is rendered here with a composition head with character molding, including wide open blue-painted eyes, a charming, crooked smile and his signature oversized ears. Dopey’s mouth features a jointed lower jaw which is operated with a pull cord at the nape of his neck. He is on a firmly stuffed cotton body with oversized composition hands and very firm lower legs that terminate in extra long feet with purple slippers which allow him to stand on his own. His iconic costume is comprised of an orange felt tunic with a black leather belt over a pair of pants in blue polished cotton. His soft felt cap which has mellowed to a soft violet shade reads “Dopey.” A treasure for Disney collectors or a wonderful piece to add to a display with a sweet 1920’s-1930’s ethos. Head embossed: IDEAL DOLL and complete with paper hang tag.
