Here we have an incredible life-sized ventriloquist figure, deaccessioned from a puppetry museum, and ready for his big comeback! This charming fellow features wonderful character molding and fine facial painting to his wood and papier-mâché head. Details included deeply blushed cheeks with a scattering of freckles, fixed hazel glass eyes, with charcoal shadowing, a cherry red nose tip and an open mouth with red lips and a top row of teeth (damage to teeth on right side) and a jointed lower jaw. His head is in good condition save for normal, scattered wear (particularly to upper front of neck) and scattered nicks to the tip of the nose. He wears his original wig of vivid, dyed red horsehair topped with a navy wool cap. His head is mounted on a handle which is accessible through his open back and allows manual operation of his jaw (with a wooden lever) and the ability to turn his head from side to side by rotating the handle. His upper torso features a finely crafted wooden armature, and is covered with an integrated cotton shirt front in burgundy cotton with white stripes. A stiff white cotton collar and yellow silk tie are also worn. His stuffed cotton arms terminate in nicely detailed wood and wood and papier-mâché hands in good condition. His lower body is of firmly stuffed cotton with weighted legs and hinge sewn knees (all cotton elements of the body are in very clean condition).
He wears a vintage two-piece tweed suit with an equestrian style watch fob in the front pocket. Vintage black leather wingtip boots complete his charming presentation. An incredible piece that would bring endless charm to the doll room or puppet theater!
