WWI-era American Made Composition "Two-faced Child"
WWI-era American Made Composition "Two-faced Child"
This darling child, made in the USA, Circa 1914-1918, features a firmly stuffed cotton body with a composition head and lower arms. The head swivels to reveal two different faces: one with full, dimples cheeks, blue lithographed tin sleep eyes, rose red lips curved in a sweet smile with two tiny painted front teeth. The other face portrays a child with eyes shut, a frowning mouth and painted tears streaming from her eyes - someone needs a nap!
A cloche hat in coral linen covers the face that is not in use. She wears a two-piece romper style costume in coral linen featuring a fine cotton trim embroidered with rabbits. Ribbed cream stockings with a pink cuff are worn under black oilcloth shoes. In nice condition save for typical surface crazing to head and scattered wear discoloration to costume.
