Lafitte & Désirat Lady in Regional Dress Circa 1900-1920

$650.00

Here we have an elegant wax lady, made in France by Lafitte & Désirat, circa 1900-1920 and wearing the regional costume of Alsace-Lorraine. Fine features include blue eyes, blushed petal pink cheeks blushed and red lips in a playful smile. Her head of wavy, light brown mohair is topped with the oversized black bow traditional to traditional Alsatian dress. On a body with graceful wax arms (right hand missing thumb, left lower arm detached at elbow, but held in by sleeve cuff) and lower legs that terminate in heeled black shoes, she wears a long sleeved muslin blouse, a beaded velvet bodice and an iridescent purple skirt with a black silk taffeta apron (skirt presents splitting in back). She carries a woven bag. She is mounted on a signed, fawn velvet base.

A card enclosed in her bag reads: Antique French wax doll in costume of Alsace-Lorraine brought to Mrs. Bodler from Paris. #6, One of nine dolls forming the Bodler Doll Collection. Displayed at Green Free Library, 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA

Measures: 12 3/4” tall (including base)
