Milly's Miniatures "There Little Girl, Don't Cry"
Milly's Miniatures "There Little Girl, Don't Cry"
The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.
Here we have “There Little Girl, Don't Cry.” She is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face and a golden yellow yarn wig topped with a pink satin bow. Her body is comprised of cotton over a wired armature. She wears a floral cotton dress and holds a tiny doll whose head has sadly been torn off! She is attached to a card stock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley "There Little Girl, Don't Cry"
