Milly's Miniatures "The Constable"
Milly's Miniatures "The Constable"
The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.
"The Constable” is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with a moustache and a head of grey yarn hair topped with a black felt hat. On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, he wears a black coat with a silver sequin badge attached, tweed style britches and black leather boots. He is attached to a cardstock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley "The Constable"
