Milly's Miniatures "Up and Down Old Brandywine"

$165.00

The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.

Here we have "Up and Down Old Brandywine.” This young fisherman is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with a red yarn wig topped with a straw hat. On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, he wears a blue and white checked shirt under blue cotton overalls, bare feet (with left big toe bandaged), and carries a fishing pole and his catch of fish on a wire. He is attached to a cardstock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley "Up and Down Old Brandywine" Measures: 3” tall
