The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.

“The Country Doctor” is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with wire spectacles and a head of grey yarn hair topped with a black velvet hat.

On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, he wears a two-piece black suit and carries a stethoscope in one hand and a black doctor’s bag in the other. He is attached to a cardstock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley “The Country Doctor”
