Milly's Miniatures “Little Boy Blue”
Milly's Miniatures “Little Boy Blue”
The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.
“Little Boy Blue” is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with a full head of golden yellow yarn hair topped with a sheer silver hat. On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, he wears a two-piece suit of blue cotton and plays and horn made of saffron yellow chenille. He is attached to a cardstock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley “Little Boy Blue”
