Milly's Miniatures “Little Miss Muffet”

$145.00

The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.

“Little Miss Muffet” is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with a head of auburn yarn hair topped with a red bow. On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, she wears an organza dress with red trim and sits of a polka dot “tuffet” trimmed in lace. She holds a bowl and spoon crafted of grey pipecleaner. The spider that startled her is now missing, and only a fragment of the original paper tag remains.

Measures: 3” tall
