Milly’s Miniatures "The Circus Day Parade!"
Milly’s Miniatures "The Circus Day Parade!"
The beloved dolls of Milly’s Miniatures were created by Mildred "Milly" Davis (1900–1973) of Greenfield, Indiana. These charming figures were originally sold in the gift shop of the Riley House, birthplace of children’s poet, James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), with many of the characters derived from his poetry.
The adorable clown of "The Circus Day Parade!" is rendered in needle sculpted cotton with a nicely embroidered and hand painted face with a clown nose made of a red bead, and a carrot red yarn wig styled in curls and topped with a tiny red felt hat.
On a body comprised of cotton over a wired armature, he wears a polka dot clown costume with a ruff of cream grosgrain ribbon, chenille pom-poms down the front and oversized black shoes. He carries a tiny pink floral parasol.
He is attached to a cardstock base that reads: Milly’s Miniatures From the Birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley "The Circus Day Parade!"
